Heather Gallagher (mezzo-soprano) Ms. Gallagher has been lauded for her voice’s “radiant and full tone” (Boston Musical Intelligencier) as well as for her “standout” and (Miami Herald), “vivid” (Boston Classical Review) dramatic performances. Prior engagements include Carmen (Mercedes; Carmen cover, dir Calixto Bieito/Rechi, BLO), Haroun (Soraya; Boston Modern Orchestra Project, dir Gil Rose) the world premiere of The Nefarious, Immoral but Highly Profitable Enterprise of Mr. Burke and Mr. Hare (Margaret, dir David Schweizer, BLO) and Patience (Lady Saphir, Odyssey Opera). In addition to opera, Ms. Gallagher is a frequent concert soloist having appeared with Cape Symphony, Cantemus, and Women’s Chorus of Concord among other organizations. Ms. Gallagher is a Boston Lyric Opera Emerging Artist Alumna, and a recipient of BLO's 2016 Stephen Shrestinian Award for Excellence in addition to a First Place in the 2015 Peter Elvins Vocal Competition, First Place in Metrowest Opera's 2014 Competition, and a Two Year Fellowship from the Atlantic Music Festival. In 2020 Ms. Gallagher started Cultural Wasteland in an effort to create intimate and adventurous chamber collaborations with local artists impacted by COVID19 and the decimation of the performance industry. Keyboardist James J. Myers is in demand as a vocal coach, recitalist, lecturer, and adjudicator. Sharing the stage with leading artists of our age, he has collaborated with Christine Brewer, Judith Christin, Marvin Hamlisch, Thomas Hampson, Kelly Kaduce, Michael Mayes, Robert McDuffie, Morris Robinson, Nadine Sierra, Chris Thile, and Renée Fleming, and with composers Tom Cipullo, Jake Heggie, and Philip Glass. He has supported masterclasses of William Burden, Jane Eaglen, Steven Isserlis, Sylvia McNair, Abby Simon, Frederica von Stade, Soulima Stravinsky, Roger Vignoles, Wagnerian Linda Watson, and the late violin virtuoso Zvi Zeitlin, and served as pianist/adjudicator for Music Teachers National Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, and annually with Classical Singer National Convention, where three of his singers won First Prize Artist’s Division. Directing a dynamic coaching studio, his students have secured roles at Vienna State Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Bregenz, Glimmerglass, Central City, Santa Fe, Merola, Sarasota and Idyllwild festivals, and won scholarships to Juilliard, Indiana, and Eastman. Through Early and New Music projects he appeared as organist/harpsichordist with Jennifer Koh (Vivaldi’s Four Seasons), Bernard Labadie (Handel’s Messiah), Robert Spillman and the Boulder Bach Festival (Bach’s Mass in b minor), and with Manhattan’s Percussia through New York cultural grants. In past seasons Mr. Myers joined colleagues presenting collaborative concerts in Madrid, Berlin, Seattle, Denver, and in Los Angeles. Since 2012 he’s enjoyed an affiliation with Boston Lyric Opera as Coach/Pianist and Lecturer at venues throughout New England on topics including Vienna’s Musical Modernism in the Age of Klimt and Schiele, Music of Matisse, Tonadilla and Zarzuela, Architecture and Acoustics, Enlightenment Austria, Beaumarchais’s Figaro, and most of BLO’s pre-performance lectures. In past BLO seasons he prepared Madama Butterfly, Der fliegende Holländer, Die Zauberflöte, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Kátya Kabanová, In the Penal Colony and The Merry Widow. In houses throughout North America and Europe he commands a vast collection of operatic literature, including Jonathan Dove’s Flight, Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, Robert Ward’s The Crucible, and Nixon in China by John Adams (Naxos Label/Opera Colorado). Recent collaborations include Dialogue des Carmélites, Eugene Onegin, Cosi fan tutte, Don Pasquale, The Consul, Hydrogen Jukebox, Rake’s Progress, The Turn of the Screw, and Glory Denied by Tom Cipullo. James is engaged at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is Assistant Professor of Opera at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Each summer he teaches in Spain with Berklee-BoCo’s Summer Opera Intensive in Valencia, at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia. A travel enthusiast, he’s explored over 40 countries, speaks fluent German, fundamental French, and Italian, and currently studies Arabic. Mr. Myers holds degrees with distinction from the Eastman School of Music, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Hannover, Germany, where he was awarded a Rotary Graduate Fellowship.
