About the Event
Not only was Rebecca Clarke one of the first female instrumentalists to work in a professional orchestra in England, she became one of the most highly sought after violists of her time. In addition to her talent as a player, she was a composer of chamber music featuring songs for voice and piano. She studied under the great Charles Villiers Stanford and Ralph Vaughn Williams at the Royal College of Music and their influence is notable in her compositional style and work. She is renowned for weaving together lush Dubussian harmonic textures with the drama of Schubertian Lied.
